  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until creamy.
  2. Heat milk in a saucepan, then add to the egg mixture while stirring continuously.
  3. Transfer the mixture back to the saucepan and cook over low heat until thickened.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool and then fold in whipped heavy cream.
  5. Combine espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
  6. Dip ladyfingers in the coffee mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
  7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  8. Repeat layers, finishing with mascarpone.
  9. Chill for at least 4 hours before serving, dust with cocoa powder and chocolate shavings.

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, skip the coffee liqueur.
  • Ensure the mascarpone is at room temperature for easy mixing.
