Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until combined.
  5. Carefully stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
