Vegan Black Forest Trifle

A rich and decadent Vegan Black Forest Trifle that layers chocolate cake, whipped coconut cream, and cherries for a delightful dessert.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup plant-based milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup coconut cream
  • 1 cup cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a square baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the milk, oil, and vinegar.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to the baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  6. Let it cool before cutting into cubes.
  7. In a serving dish, layer chocolate cake cubes, whipped coconut cream, and cherries.
  8. Repeat the layers until the dish is filled.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of coffee to the batter.
  • Use fresh or frozen cherries as desired.
