  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups pitted cherries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients and milk, alternating between the two.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  8. In a small saucepan, melt brown sugar over low heat and add cherries. Stir until combined.
  9. Spread the cherry mixture over the batter in the pan.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  11. Let cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
